18th century black and gold lacquered wooden column

An elegant 18th-century turned and carved wooden column mounted on a rectangular base. The shaft, painted black, is adorned with carved and gilded wood decoration: a finely executed Corinthian-style capital and, halfway up, an imposing foliate and floral mascaron, typical of classical ornamental vocabulary.

The piece forms a striking decorative architectural element, likely intended to support a bust, lamp, or vase. Its antique patina, signs of wear, and slight irregularities in the gilding attest to its authenticity.
