Exceptional solid silver wine tasting cup – Bacchus and Bacchanalia – Leduc & Cie, circa 1880

- Period: circa 1880
- Origin: France
- Dimensions: 9 cm diameter excluding handle
- Price: 1900 euros
This solid silver tastevin is distinguished by an uncommon quality, both by its exceptional weight of 254 grams and by the richness of its decoration.
The handle, sculpted in high relief, represents a mask of Bacchus whose face is composed of an abundance of bunches of grapes, in an expressive and virtuoso interpretation of Bacchic iconography.
The bottom of the basin is decorated with a finely chiseled bacchanalian scene , a true evocation of the Dionysian procession, giving the object a narrative dimension rare in this type of production.
The whole is treated with great skill: interior reliefs designed to capture light, balance of volumes, quality of casting and chasing.
The outer edges of the wine taster are decorated with finely chiseled vine leaves and bunches of grapes in high relief.
Leduc & Cie company elegantly illustrates the taste for the 18th century revisited at the end of the 19th century.
A striking collector's item, combining decorative power, wine symbolism and goldsmithing expertise.
