An exceptional large ceremonial dish in Rouen faience, decorated in blue with the famous “lambrequin” motif, emblematic of the Rouen centre at the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century.
This type of decoration, deeply influenced by the work of Jean Bérain , is one of the great French ornamental creations of the Louis XIV – Regency period.
Description
- Cobalt blue monochrome on tin-glazed enamel
- Central medallion framed by lambrequins and arcades
- The marli is richly decorated with palmettes, arabesques, volutes and stylized masks
- Enamelled back , typical of Rouen productions
- Traditional and aesthetically pleasing restoration using staples
