Small bronze lion, 18th century

- Period: 18th century
- Origin: France or Italy
- Dimensions: 15cm
- Price: sold
An elegant small bronze sculpture of a reclining lion, with a beautiful brown patina, measuring 15 cm in length. The dynamic rendering of the anatomy, the stylized treatment of the mane and fur, and the solemn pose recall the aesthetic of 18th-century animal bronzes, somewhere between cabinet of curiosities decor and furniture ornamentation, crafted in French or Italian workshops.
The lion motif, an emblem of strength and sovereignty, was frequently used to decorate offices, cabinets, or fireplaces.
The bronze sculpture is presented on a blackened wooden base.
Some traces of old gilding can be seen.

Antique work, solid cast iron. Deep and natural patina. Signs of wear consistent with its age.
