Early 18th century solid silver wine taster

Piece of goldsmithing from the Ancien Régime, Pierre Chauveau, Poitiers, Circa 1725

Here is a rare solid silver coin from the Farmers General regime in the province of Poitou.

It bears the hallmark of the goldsmith Pierre Chauveau, active in Poitiers around 1725, identified by his initials under the crown.

Three authentic hallmarks are clearly visible:

Master's hallmark: P Chauveau

The stamp attesting to the payment of taxes

The discharge stamp, specific to the jurisdiction of Poitiers or Niort.

These marks attest to the rigor of the tax control of the Ancien Régime and the quality of the provincial goldsmithing workshops.

A precious piece, both historical and decorative, testifying to the refinement of the Louis XV era.
