This superb Tastevin in solid silver is a remarkable witness to the 18th century Lyon silversmith, combining decorative refinement and traditional oenological use. He carries the personalized engraving Jean Manin 1773 , as well as the punches attesting to his manufacture in Lyon by the master goldsmith Denis Chirat , received in 1767.
This Tastevin is finely decorated, throughout its inner surface, with a backdrop of grape clusters, stylized vine leaves and three -leaf clovers. These patterns symbolize abundance and the wine universe, typical of the tasting objects of the elites in the 18th century.
The registration engraved "Jean Manin 1773" recalls the personalized order of this object, probably during a significant event (reception in a bachic brotherhood, official function or professional use in the world of wine).
On period tatevins, the base designates the background reported and welded under the thumb . Well visible here, it forms a slight circular projection under the object.
