Piece of goldsmith of ancient regime, Pierre Chauveau, Poitiers, around 1725

Here is a rare play in solid silver from the regime of general farmers in the province of Poitou.

It carries the punch of the Pierre Chauveau goldsmith, active in Poitiers around 1725, identified by her initials under the crown.

Three authentic punches are clearly visible:

Master's punch: P Chauveau

The load hub attesting to the payment of taxes

The discharge punch, specific to the jurisdiction of Poitiers or Niort.

These brands attest to the rigor of the tax control of the old regime and the quality of provincial goldsmith workshops.
