Tastevin in 18th century silver - Trévoux, Maître Benoît Julien

- Era: around 1740-1760
- Dimension: diameter 7.4cm
- Price: 2,200 euros
This old silver tatevin is a remarkable piece from the regional goldsmith of Trévoux, in the current Rhône-Alpes region. It presents a finely worked backdrop worked with grape clusters, foliage, pearl patterns and hearts. The background on the Bâte, hammered with the old -fashioned, carries three punches of the master Benoît Julien , active in this city in the 18th century.
Trévoux was until 1762 the sovereign capital of the principality of Dombes. His independent jurisdiction authorized his goldsmiths to strike their own punches, different from the royal standards. This autonomy gave birth to original and rare works, very popular with collectors.
This Tastevin fully illustrates this tradition, by the richness of its decor, the quality of the work in rejected, and the rarity of its origin. It is an object that is both utilitarian and symbolic, formerly used for tasting and appreciation of wines.
