Young Allegorical Figure in Carrara Marble – Italy, 19th century

Text:
This touching sculpture in white Carrara marble depicts a childlike figure draped in an antique-inspired tunic. In her hand, she holds an openwork garland whose intricate forms evoke floral, coral, or symbolic motifs. Perhaps a subtle echo of Romantic meditations on the passage of time, without explicitly representing a vanitas.

The child could be Saint John the Baptist as a child; he is wearing a cross around his neck.

Probably created in Tuscany around 1870-1890, this work combines sensitivity, technical mastery, and classical inspiration. The tilted face and gentle pose enhance the meditative charm of this scene.

A sculpture full of grace and mystery, ideal for a refined interior.
