Portrait of Margaret of Palermo (1726-1800)

Oval portrait of Marguerite de Palerme (1726-1800). She married Jacques Joseph Mayol de Lupé (1718-1807) in 1755. The very beautiful original 18th century giltwood frame is in high relief, very well carved with leaves and flowers and has retained most of its original gilding.

This is the portrait of a pretty young woman dressed in blue and red velvet, which the anonymous painter has rendered shimmeringly. A thin belt cinches her waist. Lace peeks from the hollow of her sleeve, framing the neckline of her dress as well. This portrait is exquisitely elegant.

The painting is of relatively large size and there is no sign of repainting.
