Description
This Burgundian commode in solid walnut dates from the Louis XV period, circa 1750. Its bombe front opens with three rows of drawers, each highlighted by moulded reserves with sinuous raised lines. The broad, shaped lower rail features a coup de fouet carving composed of a rocaille shell with soft, jagged contours, framed by scrolls and acanthus-leaf rinceaux. The rounded front uprights extend into cabriole legs, while the sides are treated as large panels with moulded frames and an undulating profile. The solid-walnut top, moulded with a beak-moulding edge, follows the overall line of the piece. The rocaille bronze mounts include articulated drawer handles adorned with mascarons, draperies and foliage, as well as pierced escutcheons with figures. The piece is in a fine state of preservation and has a deep patina.
