Description

Large carved and gilded wood pareclose mirror, made in Piedmont around Turin circa 1770-1780. The arched central pane is surrounded by original mercury border mirrors, whose speckled silvering reflects a patina of use. The frame, articulated by a moulding carved with Greek-key motifs and small applied flowers, is surmounted by an openwork crest composed of acanthus scrolls and foliate tendrils. Foliated vegetal drops extend the composition on the sides, while the lower section rests on powerful consoles with scrolls and foliate shells. The whole retains its original gilding and a beautiful patina of age.
