Description
Large circular presentation platter in moulded and hammered pewter, made in France during the Louis XIV period. Its broad rim is accentuated by continuous mouldings. At the centre of the basin, a decoration engraved with a burin is arranged around a circular medallion with a diapered ground, containing alliance initials joined beneath two flaming and interlaced hearts, surmounted by a noble crown. The medallion is framed by a symmetrical cartouche with foliate scrolls and lambrequins in the Louis XIV style, ending in a foliated pendant. The reverse bears pewterer's marks, including a control mark dated 1692. Measuring 57 cm in diameter, this platter has a natural aged patina, with slight traces of oxidation and localized wear corrosion on the edge of the rim.
