Description
This Louis XVI-style writing table, made in France at the end of the 19th century after a model by Jean-Henri Riesener, combines mahogany and mahogany veneer with rich gilt-bronze and brass mounts. The top is surmounted by grey veined Sainte-Anne marble, edged with an openwork brass gallery decorated with geometric motifs. The frieze, embellished with framed panels with twisted-moulding gilt-bronze surrounds, opens at the front with a large drawer revealing a pull-out writing surface lined with leather tooled with small irons. A concealed side drawer forms a compartmentalised compartment intended to hold writing implements. The whole rests on four tapered square-section legs, highlighted by chiselled collars and ending in brass sabots.
