Description
This low display cabinet, made in Paris in the 18th century during the reign of Louis XVI, is distinguished by its rosewood veneer with contrasting grain. The front opens with two glazed doors with softened uprights, revealing an interior fitted with glass shelves. The cabinetmaker’s decoration is based on geometric parquetry of chevrons and interlaced motifs, extending across the top, front and sides. The key escutcheons are embellished with gilt-bronze mounts. The carcass bears a cabinetmaker’s stamp as well as the JME guild punch, associated with regulated Parisian production in the 18th century. Its balanced proportions are 104 cm high by 94 cm wide. The piece retains its original patina.
