Description
Presented as a pair, this elegant suite of cabriole-back armchairs reflects the Louis XVI taste for clear and orderly ornamentation. Made in France in the 18th century, they feature a moulded and carved beechwood frame, relaquered in white. Each arched back is crowned with a finely carved ribbon bow, whose ribbons border the upper rail. The upholstered padded armrests with manchettes terminate in scrolls and rest on splayed console supports. The sinuous seat rail reprises at the centre the retained ribbon-bow motif. Tapered, fluted legs, punctuated by square blocks decorated with carved rosettes, complete the composition. The traditional upholstery is covered with a jacquard fabric bearing small blue floral motifs. The white lacquer displays patina and signs of use.
