Solid silver hand candlestick in the Louis XV style, Paris, circa 1905-1910

A solid silver Rococo-style hand candlestick, or martinet, made in Paris in the early 20th century. Complete with its original snuffer, it features a quatrefoil base with a scalloped rim, encircled by sinuous moldings adorned with shells and foliate scrolls at the corners and along the sides. The base holds a cylindrical candle holder with a removable, square-section drip tray, richly bordered with scrolls. The ring handle is surmounted by a flat, oval thumb rest and flanked by a hook holding the truncated conical snuffer with a baluster-shaped handle. Fully detachable, the entire piece bears the silversmith's mark "OM," associated with the Parisian workshop of Octave Maillard, active circa 1905-1910. The chasing is of fine quality and the piece is in remarkable condition.
